Throwback of Oscar Fashion: What the stars wore 10 Years ago on the Red Carpet | Urban Girl Mag
The Oscar’s are coming (March 4th, 2018) so get ready! In honor of Hollywood’s grand night out, Orly Schwartz, stylist of Zahavi & Schwartz just wanted to create a fun throwback about the best dressed in 2008. While these ladies and gowns are always stunning, it was hard to find diversity on the 2008 red carpet from the mermaid gowns to the actresses wearing them. However, hopefully the 2018 carpet will show a wider range in both gowns and actresses. Below are the top 8 best dressed that appeared across 5 major fashion & entertainment publications. These women each wore timeless and/or risk-taking looks for that era in fashion.

Throwback of Oscar Fashion: What the stars wore 10 Years ago on the Red Carpet

The Oscar’s are coming (March 4th, 2018) so get ready! In honor of Hollywood’s grand night out, Orly Schwartz, stylist of Zahavi & Schwartz just wanted to create a fun throwback about the best dressed in 2008. While these ladies and gentlemen are always stunning, it was hard to find diversity on the 2008 red carpet from the mermaid gowns, and more traditional black tuxedos. However, hopefully the 2018 carpet will show a wider range in both gowns and suits. Below are the Orly’s best dressed women & men. . These actor/actresses each wore timeless and/or risk-taking looks for that era in fashion.

Forest & Keisha Whitaker in Domenica Vacca

Forest & Keisha are one of my favorite couples to see on the red carpet simply because they alway look stunning. This Custom Domenica Vacca is fits perfectly! Her light gray/blue gown was beautifully beaded and sparkled as it moved.

Penelope Cruz in Chanel Haute Couture

The drape of this navy gown, accents her curves in all the best ways, and the feathers along with the sequin detail created an interest, to what would have just been a beautifully constructed gown. The construction and effortless styling of this complete look is what makes it fun and timeless all at once.

Marion Cotillard in Jean Paul Gaultier

The reason I love this gown, is because it’s the perfect “I am a mermaid getting married dress.” As well anything Marion is wearing is usually styled flawlessly, even if was considered a fashion faux passe. I could see many “A Little Mermaid” aficionados  adding this to their pinterest boards, if pinterest was around in 2008.

P.Diddy (Sean Combs) in Sean Jean & Dolce & Gabbana

I am not sure why P.Diddy was at the Oscars in 2008, however, I can assure you he looked fly-as-f***! This mixing of his own line with D&G created a spectacularly fit 3 piece tuxedo, that was anything but boring.

Anne Hathaway in Marchesa

This was the Marchesa style dress copied around the world. I might be hard to believe but there were shorter versions of this gorgeously draped gown made in teal going to prom everywhere back in 2008.  And truthfully the Grecian draping and accented floral/ruffle bit still would be a fashion moment today, thanks to great hair and makeup!

While at first glance this is a stunning just black tulle dress, you can see intimate details of lace woven into the crisscrossed tulle. This creates great dimension for the dress. It doesn’t read as well in the photograph, but when it hit the red carpet it stole the show.

Jennifer Hudson in Roberto Cavalli

.Let’s just say I love snake print, and Jennifer’s hint of it spiced up the red carpet this year. Many opted for soft, beautiful draping and pleating. Hudson’s gown said hello, look at me, in a simple but statement worthy white gown. At this time Hudson was pre baby and pre weight loss so she was showing off her curvy silhouette.

Jessica Alba in Marchesa

Jessica Alba’s Marshesa’s gown was also a blueprint for prom fashion world wide after this red carpet moment. Her makeup artist matching her eye shadow with her dress definitely started a trend.  I wonder if they realized how much of memorable fashion moment they were creating.

Ruby Dee in tailored red belted gown and jacket

The legendary actress and activist Ruby Dee (R.I.P) looking stunning in a structured red gown. It was actually hard to find the designer, but truthfully it doesn’t matter as Ruby made this dress what it was.

Spike Lee & Wesley Snipes

I am pretty sure these two had the most fun on the red carpet! I love Wesley’s risky purple suit and Spike Lee’s foregoing of the bow tie. Makes for a great statement and stands out among all the traditional and boring suits

Cameron Diaz in Christian Dior

This Pink Christian Dior did not go down in history as Cameron Diaz’s most fashion forward moment. The color of this dress compliment’s her skin tone, making her radiate serene and calm. This could be on any millennial pink pinterest board, and no one would realize it was from 10 years ago, on the 2008 Oscar’s red carpet.

Seal & Heidi Klum

Remember when these two were a couple. #Neverforget this wild Galliano gown on Hedi or the cutting edge suit on Seal .
