Christmas LIT-eracy Gift List

Christmas will not only be lit with your typical gifts: makeup, the new iPhone, a puppy… But here at Urban Girl we’re here to make sure your Christmas or Kwanzaa is lit with literacy from African American women authors.

As a published author myself while getting my feet wet in the literary community, I have come across some very gifted authors and their published work. So, I am here to help your gifts list and to help you expand what’s currently on your bookshelf.

African-American writers have been blessing our history for quite some time, yet, we barely hear of those stories. You basically need to be of celebrity status to get a decent reach to your audience. Well, I have great news! Here I share with you a list of a few African-American authors, including myself. You should be purchasing books of this kind. Why?

.

.

I could only speak from my own perspective in expressing how vitally important it is to get these books in the hands of as many people within our urban communities as possible. Let’s encourage reading again. My writing topic of interest happens to be life lessons learned. Reading, sharing, and discussions are areas I have been working on to improve. Over the past few years, I’ve learned a lot about myself, our history, the people that surround me and the society we are living in. Shit, I had no clue about. Think about it for a minute, it is our children’s children and so on that will be studying about us, reading about our ways of life and how we strived for a better world. For them. Our younger generations that will follow us. It is true, we all have a story. It’s so inspiring. We as writers are contributing to society and our history folks. So, why not show an author some support and purchase books as gifts? Or, just because you may enjoy a good story to read to your babies. There are many children’s books out there too. Many of us, as writers are called to share our creativity with the world and it takes a great amount of courage, so I’d like to personally thank all the authors for their hard work..

.

.

.

To that end, help us help you by purchasing, reading, sharing and discussing our stories; our creatively written stories.
