Urban Girl Jazzy Amra Says is Carrying out her Late Mother’s Legacy Through her Music

Midtown- June 25th  Urban Girl Magazine attended the listening party for Jazzy Amra. She’s the protege of legendary hip hop artist Wyclef, and one of the artist currently signed with Heads Management. Which is an NYC management team ran by all women ‘Urban Girl Power!’.

At the Vinyl Crown recording studio in Midtown the listening party for the release of Jazzy Amra’s upcoming EP took place. The dimly lit recording studio was filled to capacity with music/entertainment journalists, bloggers, photographers and etc. Attendees gathered around as Wyclef introduced Amra to the audience as the one who’s ‘up next up from the Bronx behind JLo’ and then, the beat dropped. Jazzy’s newest single crept through the speakers ‘You Got Me’. The audience sung along, danced, and vibed out s Jazzy and Wyclef put on a mini show. Performing each song live from her upcoming debut EP.

Shortly after Jazzy finished performing her songs for the audience she posed for selfies with guests, and crept away from the party briefly to a room tucked away in the back of the studio for a quick one on one interview with Urban Girl Magazine, where she revealed to us her mother’s legacy lives on through her newly embarked upon music career.

Inquiring about her approval of Wyclef’s comments comparing her to JLo I had to ask how tha comparison made her feel. Not backing down from the compliment Jazzy said with much excitement “That makes me feel amazing and is flattering to me. For a legend like Wyclef cosigning me like that I must be something serious in his eyes, in the world’s eyes.”

.

.

Earlier during the listening party Jazzy mentioned that Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston were some of the artist who helped to inspire her vocal pallet. Jazzy told us that the new artist H.E.R is currently a huge inspiration to her as well. “I love Aaliyah I love Mary J. There’s a new artist right now she’s so amazing her name is H.E.R. I listen to her all of the time, she inspires me and she’s actually younger than me.”

Excited with a pinch of mixed feelings sums up Jazzy’s current emotional state as she prepares for the release of her debut EP. She stated “It’s like mixed feelings. I’m super happy and super confident about my EP it’s my first body of work. It’s going to be like my first introduction into the music world. People are really going to get to know who I am and my story because of this first EP. It’s love I am excited! “

Getting acquainted with Jazzy through her music is certainly something we’ll do as one of her songs from her EP is dedicated to her late mother. Jazzy and her siblings were taken out of her mother’s care when she was a child due to her mom’s drug addiction and after a short stint in foster care she was adopted and raised by her aunt. Her mom later passed away but Jazzy believes she’s carrying out her mother’s legacy of becoming a singer which was once a dream wished to fulfill. Jazzy opened up about her childhood during our interview, like many urban girls resilience was key. “…She is my inspiration for singing. When I was taken away from her care at a young age my strongest memory of her was her singing in the mirror. Toni Braxton, dancing with her beautiful hair and her beautiful body. So she’s definitely with me … I don’t believe in a coincidence. So a year after she passed I started working with Clef (wyclef) and she was always a big fan of the Fugees. So the way it all connected there’s no coincidence. I owe it all to my family, I owe it to God, owe it to the people who has lost someone they loved. I just want to uplift people.”
