Orchid Affections at the Barclays Center

Brooklyn. New York- Yesterday evening in one of the Barclay’s Center board rooms the owner of Onyx Crown Co. Latasha Williams, organized Orchid Affections.

The premise of Orchid Affections was to call together stakeholders in the creative community to have a discussion on how to continue improvement in the state of the black community. This discussion involved author Leah Janelle, Celfie Cosmetics founder Nicole Harding, Phedmos Prophet, music producer Hassan Shareef, Luke Cage’s Jermel Howard, Love and Hip Hop’s Alexis Walker and Moe Brown of BBOD, Noveerose.com founder Novia Rose, Tiraya Conyers of Vanity Unedited, Renee Ricketts of Renee Ashley PR, Chantell Harris, Publicist Lynn Hobbs, and myself Desiree Hadley of Urban Girl Magazine.

With the inauguration of Donald Trump this past Friday, solidifying the reality that our president has openly expressed feelings of racism and patriarchy we all felt that it was time to cultivate a positive image within the young people starting in our communities.

At the direction of Latasha we all brainstormed on topics such as financial literacy, education, cultural practices, bullying, and self love. We used this conversation to build on ideas and ways in which to salve issues affecting our youth.

With the recent news of 14 year old Miami teen, Nakia Venant live streaming her suicide via facebook, we collective decided that focusing on bullying would be the best way to improve the moral of our teens in our community.

Stay tuned to Urban Girl Magazine for further details on this collective project as it progresses.
