An Urban Girl How To Guide on Baby Hairs
The internet and black twitter was in an uproar yesterday over a ‘hair stylist’ that made an appearance on the Wendy Williams show yesterday. The woman was supposed to recreate 2 curly puff pony tails originally worn by Yara Shahidi. While the curly puffs were cute A+ for effort the stylist’s attempt at recreating Yara’s baby hairs was horrendous and cringe worthy to watch. She gets a F- for execution and for not doing her research on how to properly lay baby hairs. I would’ve been helpful to look up the #babyhairs hashtag on IG and watch how black women everywhere have been perfecting the baby hair technique for ages before going on national television and making a trash execution of a cultural landmark.

She was so bad at laying down ol’ girl’s edges Wendy had to take the toothbrush from her and show her how it’s properly done.
.
Yes as you can probably tell, I take my baby hairs seriously, mine and my 9 year old daughter’s as well. Her friends even ask her “who did your edges Nyla? They always look so nice!” Look below for the original video of the baby hair fail.

This was almost as bad as the time the hair stylist on the Today show made a piss poor attempt at styling natural hair. When her before picture was better than her after. It was so bad and received such horrendous reviews on social media that the stylist apologized via twitter for the horrible hair style.

Now back to the Wendy Show we’ve created a simple guide to those out their interested in black culture’s acquired taste of layed edges.
.
STEP 1: First before you start laying your baby hairs you must first pay homage to one of the most fearless baby haired goddesses known to mankind… Chilli from TLC. Chilli is one of the most iconic women to rock her baby hairs on the main stage for the world to see. Chilli’s baby hairs are epic!
.
.
.
STEP 2: Brush hair forward towards your forehead not BACKWARDS into the bulk of the hair.
.
..
..
STEP 3: Using a combination of your favorite gel and edge control place the concoction on a toothbrush (one specifically for your hair) and swoop edges in a swirl motion.
.
.
.
.
STEP 4: Tie a head scarf to hold edges in place.
.
.
AND YOUR EDGES ARE NOW ON FLEEK!
