June 19th is known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day. On this day in 1865 the announcement of the abolition of slavery was made in Texas. This day is important to acknowledge since it specifically symbolizes the freedom of African Americans. Black-ish brought this topic to the national stage as they had an entire episode dedicated to the history of Juneteenth last season.
