Ryan Cooglar and Ava DuVernay make history at the box office. With Cooglar directed film Black Panther now grossing $1 billion worldwide. DuVernay’s film ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ is now holding down the number 2 spot at the box office. For the first time in history the top 2 films in the country are both directed by black film directors. *What a time to be alive!*
Cooglar is now the second black film director to to have a film that has grossed $1 billion.

Cooglar wrote this tear jerker of a letter to Ava “I watched closely from across the hall at Disney while working on Black Panther as my big sister inspired her crew with love and navigated the challenges of studio filmmaking, adapting a book that many people called unfilmable into a movie that explodes with hope, with love, and with women warriors. But above all, it’s a film about a little black girl with glasses — like my mom, like my wife, like my big sister Ava — who refuses to accept that her dad is lost.”

Congrats to these 2 geniuses on moving the culture forward and on doing the necessary work in order to create a better world for future generations !

Ava simply tweeted out her excitement for the win!
