September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. 1 in 3 children in the United States are overweight or obese.
Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
Childhood obesity is a major issue and children need their parents to help put an end to this epidemic. I understand that it is easy for us to feed our children nuggets from Wendy’s and french fries from McDonald’s but it should be given as a treat and in moderation, not every other day. It is easy to make fast healthy meals at home, I do it all the time. I can make healthy, delicious tacos in 20 Minutes. If I can do it you can too.
Urban Girl Magazine cares that our children are overweight or obese and we challenge parents to make better health choices for their kids.
The good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented. In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Urban Girl Magazine encourages your family to make healthy changes together.
Healthy Changes:
Get active outside: Walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, or play basketball at the park.
Limit screen time: Keep screen time limited to 2 hours or less a day (time spent on the computer, watching TV, or playing video games) .
Make healthy meals: Buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods.
Taking small steps as a family can help your child stay at a healthy weight.
