Baltimore, Maryland’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed this morning at about 1:20am after a boat transporting shipping containers truck one of the bridge’s support columns. About seven people then fell into the Patapsco River due to the collapse.
This tragic turn of events prompted Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore to launch a State of Emergency.
The Baltimore Fire Department Chief James Wallace said authorities are “still very much in an active search and rescue posture,” noting they are searching for “upwards of seven individuals” and that sonar has detected the presence of vehicles in the water.
