ESSENCE Fashion House Delivers Black Fashion, Culture and Community in the Heart of New York City

The 6th annual ESSENCE Fashion House bought Black trailblazers, creatives, designers and fashion enthusiasts together for an unforgettable evening of conversations, showcases, and inspiration. This year’s theme, “Luxury Undefined” highlighted the intersection of fashion and culture, while uplifting Black voices in the fashion industry. The event gave attendees front-row access to the tools and information needed to be a player in the fashion industry. 

The 2024 ESSENCE Fashion House opened with an energizing set from DJ David, setting the stage for an evening of style and culture. Hosted by model & actress, Eva Marcille, this year’s event featured insightful panels, conversations and presentations that explored the theme of authenticity in fashion. Event highlights included:

  • A discussion with Misa Hylton, acclaimed celebrity stylist and fashion designer, on how to navigate authenticity in the luxury market and the importance of cultural integrity and originality. 
  • A panel with Theophilio’s Edwin Thompson and L’Enchanteur’s Soull and Dynasty Ogun that spoke to attendees about discovering and refining their personal style while exploring different aesthetics and experimenting with clothing and accessories. 
  • A compelling conversation moderated by ESSENCE Ventures President & CEO Caroline Wanga, featuring fashion designer Dapper Dan and rapper and fashion icon FERG as they discussed how designers balance staying true to their artistic visions while meeting the demands of the ever-changing commercial landscape.

The event also featured the popular SOKO MRKT, showcasing a lineup of emerging fashion collections from designers including KaphilTejahn BurnettFreddie Estelle and SOKO. Attendees had the chance to shop these unique collections and connect directly with brand founders, emphasizing the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses.

The September/October 2024 “Fashion Issue” of ESSENCE Magazine is now available on newsstands, exploring how Black women have profoundly shaped the past, present, and future state of fashion with reflective profiles on beloved Hip-Hop style architect June Ambrose, model and fashion muse Sabrina Elba, writer and author Sarah Jakes Roberts, among others. This magazine issue’s cover star is Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Tems, in her ESSENCE cover debut. The photos, taken by esteemed photojournalist Liz Johnson Artur against the backdrop of London, vividly depict how Tems’ career journey has influenced her unique style in fashion and music.
