Crabs on Thee Way– Located at 290 Mulberry Street, Newark, NJ. This is a crab boil style seafood restaurant, which is black owned. In true New Jersey style, you can’t by alcohol from the bar but you can bring your own brown bag (BYOB). There is also hookah and a live DJ. The DJ spins on certain days, check their IG page for details @Crabsontheeway

Cornbread Farm to Soul– Located at 915 Broad Street, Newark, NJ. This is a soul food restaurant serving all of your traditional southern soul food options such as fried chicken, Mac & cheese, sweet tea, collard greens turkey wings, and much more. The Yard– Located at 55 park place downtown Newark, NJ (inside of Military Park). This is a ‘burger joint’ with a twist. Some of their menu options include the oxtail burger, shrimp burger, and more. The fried chicken sandwich is *Chef’s Kiss*. Check them out the next time you’re in the downtown area, you won’t be disappointed.

Afro Taco– Located at 716 Elizabeth Ave in Newark, NJ. You’ve probably guessed by the name but this food truck is a fusion of Ghanian and Mexican flavors meshed together to deliver your favorite popular Mexican food items with a flavorful twist. Their tacos come with a side of the fan favorite, Jollof rice. Check out their instagram page @Afro_taco.

Tonnie’s Minis– Located at 228 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ. This is a bakery serving everything from cupcakes, to pies, to custom cakes, to cookies, to brownies, to ice cream, and much more. This bakery originally started in Harlem, NY some years back and they recently opened up a Newark location in Teacher’s Village, about 4-5 years ago (don’t quote me on that timeline estimate). I highly recommend if you are looking for a bakery to satisfy that sweet craving Tonnie’s Minis is the place to go. Check out their instagram page @Tonniesminis

Black Swan Espresso– Located at 93 Halsey street Newark, NJ. This is a cute coffee shop serving all of your cult classic coffee items, breakfast items, and teas. You can get even get the lovely milk alternatives such at oat and aldmond milk. Among other options their menu also features the millennial fave avocado toast.
