Men in fashion- yes men make up some of the most pioneering moments in the fashion industry. We’re all familiar with one of Beyonce’s most popular stylist Tye Hunter, and let us also not forget to mention the historical moment that took place in recent weeks, where British VOGUE appointed their first black male editor in chief, Edward Enninful .

Now let’s dive into the Textiles and Prints panel that was orchestrated by Heir’s Public Relations.

The event took place at the We Work space in Bryant Park, New York. Before the panel began there was a networking hour which started at 6:30 pm, guests sipped wine while they mixed and mingled with fellow creatives, and observed the fashion presentation by Malcolm Diggs. Sherrod Lewis of Heir’s PR moderated the event where panel members who were tastefully referred to as Kings included Mickey Freeman (fashion stylist and writer), Kells Barnet (fashion entrepreneur), Olushola Bashorun (Hermes employee and fashion photographer), and Daryle Tyson (fashion Director at Forever 21).

The men touched on issues such as the lack of diversity in the fashion industry, the struggles of maintaining your own business, manifesting your dreams, believing in yourself, being a black gay male in the fashion industry, and much more.

“I know the power of hard work, faith in God, and speaking things into existence… it’s actually scary… when you really truly believe it ti can happen….”- Mickey Freeman.

Panelist Daryle Tyson, shared his experience on how his life changed so much in a short period of time by just changing his environment which included moving from Florida to New York City.

“I was in a place where I didn’t know what was next I just knew that I wanted to be somewhere big in a different city than Jacksonville, Florida…. I ended up in NYC…In November of 2011 I moved to NYC… Since I’ve been here i was able to get promoted 4-5 times from a sales associate t0 a position where I’m traveling with the company… If you ask me now where I’m going, I don’t know but I know I believe in God…”

Kells Barnet chimed in agreeing with Daryle by saying“One of the most important things you said you’ve gotta be around like minded people in order to grow…”

The panelist took questions from the audience, before closing the panel discussion.

The event wrapped around 9:30 pm – 10 pm and guest had the opportunity to speak one on one with the panel members afterward.
